Abstract
Introduction: The elimination of HIV/AIDS as a public health problem is a priority of the Brazilian Ministry of Health (MoH). Access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) reduces AIDSrelated morbidity and mortality and impacts the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS. Knowing and understanding the psychosocial conditions, risks, and vulnerabilities surrounding the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) represents an important tool for comprehensive care and consequent therapeutic success. Objective: To characterize the sociodemographic, clinical, and therapeutic profile of people living with HIV/AIDS treated at the Outpatient Pharmacy of a university hospital in Maceió, Alagoas, in 2024, to support the improvement of pharmaceutical care and the individualization of healthcare. Methods: This was a descriptive study involving analysis of public epidemiological data obtained from the Epidemiological Indicators Panel of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The analysis was conducted interpretatively. As freely accessible statistical data were used, without nominal identification or risk of moral harm to patients, submission for evaluation by a Research Ethics Committee was not required. Results and Conclusion: The sociodemographic characteristics of the patients showed a predominance of males, with 1,215 patients (62.5%), and 728 (37.5%) females. The most prevalent age group was 25 to 39 years, predominant among men, while among women the most common age group was 40 to 59 years. Regarding educational level, 32% of patients had between 0 and 7 years of schooling, a pattern similar to the national profile, characterized by a higher frequency of people with a low level of education. Most patients (75.4%) identified themselves as mixedrace, 20.6% as White/Asian, 3.1% as Black, 0.2% as Indigenous, and 0.6% did not report race/color. In 2024, 82% of men initiated antiretroviral therapy (ART), compared with 75% of women. The predominant therapeutic regimen was similar in both groups, with rates of 72% and 69%, respectively, using the combination of tenofovir, lamivudine, and dolutegravir (TDF/3TC + DTG), according to the Clinical Protocols and Therapeutic Guidelines (PCDT). Among the 209 patients who started ART, 3% initiated treatment on the day of diagnosis, 4% between 1 and 7 days, 22% between 8 and 30 days, 59% between 1 and 6 months, and 12% after more than 6 months. The PCDT recommends initiating ART on the same day or within 7 days after diagnosis, highlighting delays in many cases. Understanding the profile of the population served is essential to support care strategies, adapt and individualize pharmaceutical care, and assist in planning future actions. It is essential that healthcare professionals be prepared to identify structural and social barriers that may affect adherence and continuous care.
