Abstract
Parkinson's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system, manifesting itself through motor and non-motor symptoms. It is estimated that there are approximately 200,000 people diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in Brazil. There is no cure and treatment aims to alleviate symptoms and improve the patient's quality of life. The Unified Health System (SUS) provides the necessary medications, which are accessed by patients through the CEAF (Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance). Among the medications provided are Amantadine, Pramipex-ol, Bromocriptine, Trihexyphenidyl, Entacapone, Selegiline, Clozapine, Rasagiline and Tolcapone. Objective: The objective of this study is to outline the pharmacoepidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who are treated at the CEAF. Material and Method: Cross-sectional, retrospective and descriptive study, using data extracted from the Hórus system, provided by the CEAF of Maceió. All registered and active patients were included in the study. A dispensing report was generated, the data were organized and subjected to statistical analysis to identify drug prescription patterns. For statistical analysis, a database was developed using Microsoft® Excel® 2010 software. Statistical significance was determined using Fisher's test and chi-square, considering a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The study observed that most patients with Parkinson's disease use only 1 drug (75% monotherapy). Pramipexole, being the most common, in both doses 0.25 mg (25%) and 1 mg (23%). 18% of patients use dual therapy and 6% triple therapy. The most used dual therapy was the combination of Amantadine 100 mg and Pramimexole (0.25 mg or 1 mg). There was a similar distribution between men and women regarding the use of medications, and no significant differences were found between age, sex and race of the patients. Conclusion: By identifying the patterns of frequency and use of medications, it is possible to observe the prescription pattern of patients with Parkinson's, which can contribute to improving the care and supply of these medications in the SUS. In addition, it can contribute to the formulation of public policies by considering that access to treatment and medications is limited, the identification of the patterns of medication use strengthens pharmaceutical assistance, in order to guarantee full access to health for the patient, who will have access to their treatment, meeting their health needs.
